Pengertian dan Jenis Klausa - Clause

Clause : a group of words containing a subject and predicate and functioning as a member of a complex or compound sentence.

Clause terdiri dari dua jenis:
1.   Independent Clause: clause yg bisa berdiri sendiri, ex: She loves the dress.
2.   Dependent Clause: clause yg tidak bisa berdiri sendiri, jadi membutuhkan independent clause, ex:where I was born.

Dependent Clause antara lain: 
1. Adjective Clause
2. Noun Clause
3. Adverb Clause

1. Adjective Clause
Adjective clause: dependent clause that modifies a noun.
Ø  Adjective clause yg menjelaskan noun sebagai SUBJEK
Cirinya: Setelah conjuction (who, which, that) diikuti Verb.
Ex: I like the man who writes the poem.
    The girl who pass the exam is happy.
      I choose the sentence which contains noun clause.
     
Adj clause memodifikasi noun, jadi yg digabung itu noun nya. Dari 2 kal itu, persamaannya kan ada di noun the man & he, jadi yg 1 diilangin n diganti “who”  karena human
-> I like the man who writes the poem.
 
» Terdiri dari 2 clause:
I like the man
He writes the poem.

Pattern:
I     like       the man      who        writes       the poem.

S          V                Objek,             Dependent clause yg mnjelaskan ttng objek   

The girl     who      pass       the exam           is         happy
       S             Conj.           V                    O                        to be    Complement
       S        Dependent clause yg menjelaskn subjek       V                   0




Ø  Adjective clause yg menjelaskan noun sebagai OBJEK
            Cirinya: Setelah conjuction (whom, which, that) diikuti Noun.
Ex: The movie which I saw was good
      The girl whom I meet is Clara.
      The test that I am taking is difficult.

Adj clause memodifikasi noun, jadi yg digabung itu noun nya. Dari 2 kal itu, persamaannya kan ada di noun the movie, dan disini the movie berfungsi sebagai OBJEK. Jadi yg 1 diilangin n diganti “that”  karena benda
 
» Terdiri dari 2 clause:
The movie was good
I saw the movie

The girl is Clara                       The test is difficult
I saw her                                  I am taking the test
            O                                                         O

Pattern:
The movie      which       I       saw        was      good
         S                     Conj.         S              V            to be      complement
          S                Dependent clause yg mnjelskn subjek
The test      that              am       taking       is     difficult
        S               Conj.           S         to be              V             to be     complement    
          S            Dependent clause yg mnjelskn subjek

Ø  Penggunaan Whose
Cirinya: conjuction diikuti noun (kata benda-yang dimiliki)
Ex: I know the man whose book was left
       I meet the woman whose husband is the director.
Dari 2 kal itu, persamaannya kan ada di noun the man & kepemilikan his. Untuk menggabungkan kalimat, his diganti dengan “whose” yang artinya miliknya...
Dalam hal ini, whose book artinya bukunya
 
» Terdiri dari 2 clause:
I know the man
His book was left

I meet the woman
Her husband is the director

Pattern:
       know           the man          whose         book         was          left

S              V                         O                   Dependent clause mnjelaskan miliknya Objek
2. Noun Clause
Noun clause: dependent clause that fuctions as a noun.
Conjunction NC: kata tanya (when, where, who, which, why, etc)
                         Wheter, if, that
Cirinya: conjunction diikuti S V
Ex: I did not hear what she said.
      I don’t know whether she will come
      What they said surprised me
      It is fact that the world is round

Noun clause what she said menggantikan fungsi noun sebagai OBJEK





Noun clause what they said menggantikan fungsi noun sebagai SUBJEK

I     did not    hear     that               j

3.  Adverb Clause
Adverb Clause: dependen clause which functions as adverb and give explanation about verb, adjective and adverb.
Conjunction: when, while, after, because, tough,etc.
Ex: When he checked the kitchen, he found leftover
       I don’t go to school because I feel bad
       She went to bed after she finished her homework

Terdiri dari 2 clause:
When        he      checked      the kitchen,      he      found      leftover
Conj.             S              V                             O                 S              V               O
   Dependent clause yg menjelaskan time             Independent clause

I            don’t   go        to school        because        I        feel      bad
S                     V                        O                      Conj.               S            V            O

  Independent Clause                                     Dependent clause yg mnjelaskan alasan
